MSCT 602 MUSIC THERAPY PRINCIPLES I (3)
An overview of human development across the lifespan, with a focus on children and elderly populations; music therapy principles that address the needs of these populations based on established research and evolving evidence-based practice.
MSCT 603 MUSIC THERAPY PRINCIPLES II (3)
An overview of behavioral health diagnoses, with a focus on populations within rehabilitation and medical settings; music therapy principles that address behavioral health needs based on established research and evolving evidence-based practice. Prerequisites: MSCT 601 and MSCT 602.
MSCT 604 MUSIC THERAPY RESEARCH METHODS & ETHICS (3)
An examination of research methods in music therapy, including qualitative and quantitative design; research ethics; and conducting, reviewing, and analyzing research data for application in clinical practice. Prerequisite: MSCT 603.
MSCT 605 MUSIC THERAPY PRACTICUM I (1)
Supervised pre-clinical experiences with opportunities for practicing and developing music therapy interventions with early childhood and school-aged populations. Graded S/U. Corequisite: MSCT 606.
MSCT 606 APPLICATIONS TO MUSIC THERAPY I (1)
An overview of music therapy applications across a variety of settings through pre-clinical experiences: evaluator-evaluations, supervised co-led intervention demonstrations, and documentation. Corequisite: MSCT 605.
MSCT 607 MUSIC THERAPY PRACTICUM II (1)
Supervised pre-clinical experiences with opportunities for practicing and developing music therapy interventions with adult populations. Graded S/U. Corequisite: MSCT 608. Prerequisites: MSCT 605/MSCT 606.
MSCT 608 APPLICATIONS TO MUSIC THERAPY II (1)
An in-depth investigation of music therapy applications across a variety of settings through pre-clinical experiences: supervised co-led and independent intervention demonstrations, peer-evaluations, group discussions, and documentation. Corequisite: MSCT 607. Prerequisites: MSCT 605/MSCT 606.
MSCT 609 MUSIC THERAPY PRACTICUM III (1)
Supervised pre-clinical experiences with opportunities for practicing and developing music therapy interventions with populations in rehabilitative settings. Designed to prepare students for future residency in the music therapy internship. Graded S/U. Corequisite: MSCT 610. Prerequisites: MSCT 607/MSCT 608.
MSCT 610 APPLICATIONS TO MUSIC THERAPY III (1)
An extensive investigation of music therapy applications across a variety of settings through pre-clinical experiences: supervised independent intervention demonstrations, self- and peer-evaluations, group discussions, documentation, and clinical research. Designed to prepare students for future residency in the music therapy internship. Corequisite: MSCT 609. Prerequisites: MSCT 607/MSCT 608.
MSCT 611 RESIDENCY IN MUSIC THERAPY INTERNSHIP (6)
This internship completes progress towards the required 1,200 total hours of music therapy experience at a clinical internship site approved by the American Music Therapy Association. Enrollment is permitted after the completion of all coursework in the certificate. Successful completion of the internship is required before receiving the certificate or sitting for the Music Therapy Board Certification Examination. Graded S/U. Prerequisites: all coursework in the Professional Certificate in Music Therapy must be completed before enrollment in the residency internship.
